Which hookah flavour should you get?
There are more than thirty single flavours on our board and a long list of house mixes. That is too many choices for a Tuesday. Here is how to narrow it down fast.
First, answer one question
Forget the board for a second. Do you want the smoke to feel cool and clean, or sweet and rich? Almost everyone knows which of those they want, and it cuts the list in half immediately.
The four families
| Family | On our board | Pick it if |
|---|---|---|
| Mint & ice | Mint, Lemon Mint, Gum Mint, Grape Mint, Cain Mint, Twice Ice | You want it cold and clean. The safest first choice. |
| Fruit | Watermelon, Mango, Guava, Kiwi, Peach, Strawberry, Orange, Tangelo, Grapefruit, White Grape | You want something familiar and easy. |
| Candy & sweet | White Gummy, Red Gummy, Blue Mist, Ambrosia, Aloha, Big Boy | You like it sweet and full. Heavier over a long session. |
| Distinctive | Paan Raas, Rose, Dream Scape, Love 66, Lady Killer, Safari Melon | You have done this before and want something with character. |
What mint actually does
This is the single most useful thing to understand, and almost nobody explains it. Mint is not really a flavour here — it is a temperature control. It makes the smoke feel cooler and lighter on the throat, and it stops a sweet flavour from becoming cloying an hour in.
Which is why nearly every good mix has a little mint in it, and why a pure candy flavour on its own can feel heavy by the end. If you are building your own and it feels like something is missing, the missing thing is usually mint.
Sweet gives you the flavour. Mint gives you the finish. Most of the mixes on our board are just those two in different ratios.
House mix or build your own?
You can do either at no difference in price.
Take a house mix if it is your first few visits
These are combinations we have already built, tested and numbered. They are balanced, and you can order one by number or just describe what you want and let the counter choose. There is no downside to this and no one thinks less of you for it.
Build your own once you know what you like
You can combine up to three singles in one bowl. Some honest advice on that:
- Two is usually better than three. Three flavours fight each other more often than they harmonise. The best homemade mixes are typically one fruit plus one mint.
- Pick a lead and a support. One flavour should be the point; the other is there to lift it, not to compete.
- Do not stack three sweets. Gummy plus Ambrosia plus Aloha is a lot of sugar and very little contrast.
Good starting pairs: watermelon and mint. Guava and lemon mint. Double apple and lime. Blue mist and white gummy.
Russian flavours: +$5, once
The Russian range is a different style of tobacco altogether — generally stronger and more dessert-leaning. Ice Cream, Vanilla Cream, Candy Cow, Lemon Pie, Paradise, Banana Mama, Mandarin, Sea Buckthorn, Cane Mint.
It adds $5 to the bowl, not $5 per flavour, so take one or take three, the surcharge is identical. Worth trying once you know what the house range tastes like, so you have something to compare it against.
What about the base?
Swapping the water for Red Bull, Monster, Bang, Snapple, Coke, lime or milk costs $10. It changes the body of the smoke rather than adding a strong flavour of its own — milk softens it noticeably, the energy drinks sharpen it. Do not expect your Red Bull base to taste like Red Bull.
Still stuck?
Say one sentence at the counter: "something fresh", "something sweet", or "something I have not had before". That is genuinely enough to go on, and it is how most regulars order. Or browse the whole board on your phone before you come.
